Over 600,000 of these were foreign visitors, an 18% year-on-year increase.
By the end of this year, Đà Nẵng expects to see a 230% year-on-year increase in the number of international air passenger arrivals, to 160,000, through 8 direct flight routes.
Three of them are scheduled flight routes, and the remainder are charter.
The impressive figures can be mainly attributed to the opening of new international routes from Far East Russia, and China’s Hangzhou, Macau, and Nanjing.
To meet the increasing travel demands of both domestic and foreign visitors, many airlines have taken the initiative to increase the number of their flights.
In particular, there are between 3 and 4 flights per week from South Korea to Đà Nẵng, instead of two flights previously.
The number of Đà Nẵng -Singapore direct flights has also risen to 5 flights per week.
The Đà Nẵng Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is making every effort to accelerate the opening of new routes between Đà Nẵng and Shanghai, Taipei, Laos, and the Russian cities of Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, and Krasnoyarsk.
In an effort to attract more Russian tourists to the city, the Department has cooperated with the Russian television studio, “Edinaya Media Gruppa”, to shoot a documentary about Đà Nẵng.
It is a part of the “My Planet” TV series which is shown on Russia’s major TV channels.
Special attention is also being paid to welcoming international famtrips, as well as attending international trade and tourism fairs to promote Đà Nẵng’s tourism products.
The city has also seen a growth in the number of domestic visitors during the year, to over 2 million.
This was in sharp contrast to a decrease in the number of tourist arrivals from European countries and the USA.
The city’s tourism has so far this year earned 6,000 billion VND in revenue, a 36% year-on-year increase.
Next year the city is expecting to welcome 3 million visitors, including 2.3 million domestic tourists.
The opening of direct Đà Nẵng -Vinh and Đà Nẵng – Cần Thơ flights should help attract more visitors to the city from the north and south of Viet Nam.
The city’s travel agencies will launch many new tour types, especially tourism associated with sporting activities such as water skiing, team building, fishing and parasailing.
Top priority will be given to advertising local tourism products in the most popular newspapers, magazines and major TV channels across Việt Nam and overseas.
The Đà Nẵng Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, local travel agencies, and other localities outside the city, will jointly strive to take advantage of Đà Nẵng being the Pacific gateway for the East-West Economic Corridor to exploit its full tourism potential.
